The journey of Chaithanya began with the vision of Dr. K. G. Ramachandran Nair, an eminent ophthalmologist whose dream was to make world-class eye care accessible to everyone. After receiving advanced ophthalmic training in the United Kingdom and serving in prestigious institutions abroad, he returned to Kerala to establish Chaithanya Eye Hospital in 1996, creating one of the state’s first dedicated private eye hospitals.

Over the years, Chaithanya has grown into one of South India’s leading eye care institutions, offering advanced tertiary eye care, pioneering subspecialty services, cutting-edge technology, research, and academic excellence. This strong clinical foundation inspired the establishment of Chaithanya Institute of Optometry & Vision Sciences (CIOVS)—an institution dedicated to educating the next generation of skilled and compassionate optometrists.

Today, CIOVS combines academic excellence with extensive clinical exposure through one of Kerala’s largest eye care networks, empowering students with real-world experience, innovation, research opportunities, and a patient-first approach to healthcare.
