Our History
We started our journey in 1995 with a multispecialty eye hospital in Trivandrum, the first private eye hospital. In the last two decades, we have built a network of care that provides expert eye care in every neighborhood.
An NABH and ISO accredited Institute, the best eye care provider in South Kerala with a history of 29 years of service excellence. Our hospital comprises of state- of-the-art facilities, latest treatment modalities adept & awards winning eye specialists, competent staff and well trained technicians make us to empower Eye Care services by Giving light, Protecting vision & Spreading Hope.
Today, we are one of the largest growing eye care network in South Kerala. In 2024 February we achieved one more milestone towards quality eye care by becoming Asia’s first eye hospital to get Green OT certification by Bureau Veritas.

Dr. V.Sahasranamam, MS,DO, Senior Consultant (Cataract & Pediatric Ophthalmology) as the Principal. Dr. V.Sahasranamam is a retired Professor of Ophthalmology under the Medical College, Trivandrum and was the Head of the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Trivandrum. The vast teaching and administrative experience of Dr.V.Sahasranamam, while helping the students gain immensely in knowledge acquisition will also lead the institution to greater heights.

The Chaithanya Eye Hospital & Research Institute, Trivandrum was started in the year 1995 with 4 doctors and was one of the first stand-alone eye hospital in the private sector. Today, it boasts of 28 eye care specialists encompassing 16 specialisations.
The Hospital has grown to its present form with an impressive group of consultants offering a wide range of super specialty ophthalmic care with the most modern equipment and supported by experienced and qualified technical staff. We are committed to our vision of Giving Light, Protecting Vision and Spreading Hope and have been labouring and taking initiatives to deliver quality eye care to all strata of society.

We trace our history to the year 1995 when our Founder & Chairman Dr. KGR Nair (MS DO (London),FRCS (London), FRCS (Glasgow) founded the Chaithanya Eye Hospital & Research Institute at Kesavadasapuram, Trivandrum. The Hospital is a fully accredited NABH hospital with top of the line equipment and staffed by some of the most renowned surgeons and specialists in the industry. We have now grown across Kerala which is a testimony of our success in delivering quality eye care to our patients.

The partners of the Chaithanya Eye Hospital & Research Institute conceived and registered The Chaithanya Foundation as a Charitable Society in the year 2022 with the noble objective of providing health science education for ensuring availability of well-trained skilled personnel capable of offering their services to Hospitals.
The Chaithanya Institute of Optometry & Vision Sciences under The Chaithanya Foundation, is not just a new academic establishment but a testament to our dedication to advancing eye care. As the Managing Trustee of The Chaithanya Foundation, I am honored to offer our B.Sc Optometry program, which is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences. We recognize the crucial role Optometrists play in delivering high-quality eye care. We are proud to extend our legacy of care and expertise into education, nurturing the next generation of optometrists who will continue to elevate the standards of eye health. The students are offered access to highly committed staff along with the most modern equipment and cutting-edge technology available in the Chaithanya Eye Hospital. We invite students of B.Sc. Welcome to The Chaithanya Institute of Optometry & Vision Sciences, a college under The Chaithanya Foundation where we are committed to produce qualified, professionally equipped Optometrists capable of delivering superior services to patients.
As Principal, it is my pleasure to introduce our 4-year B.Sc Optometry course which is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur. The Course has been designed to provide a comprehensive education and training experience for aspiring Optometrists.
Our college is an extension of the Chaithanya Eye Hospital & Research Institute, a leading eye care Hospital founded in 1995. The Hospital's state of the art equipment and its team of renowned surgeons and specialists offer our students unparalleled opportunities to gain hands on experience and insights into the field of Optometry.
